![]() ![]() These watches are designed and engineered to become partners of people who like their activities rough and rugged. The bottom line as far as I can tell is that the tide feature on Casio watches is really only useful if you live near a coast with semidiurnal tides AND calibrate it pretty often (i.e., every day or two), otherwise it's basically just a gimmick IMHO.From G-SHOCK, the watch that brought unmatched toughness to personal timekeeping, comes a collection of models that deliver a level of protection. If you need accurate tide data on your wrist, that certainly seems to be the watch to beat right now. Unfortunately there are quite a few threads reporting that the GBX-100 and GPR-B1000 tide data isn't any better (and in some cases due to app issues is much worse) than the "old school" tide data provided by a GW-7900, PRW-2500, etc.ĭon't own one myself, but have a few kayaker/surfer friends on both US coasts and Australia that swear by the Instinct Solar Surf I suggested earlier in this thread. That was definitely my experience with at least ten of them during years living on the US west coast and Alaska. In places with diurnal or mixed tides, being hours off, or even completely opposite of actual tide status, is almost guaranteed to happen within days of calibration. This topic has been discussed many times already ( here's a good/recent thread to start with), but the underlying issue is Casio's tide watches only kinda work in areas with semidiurnal tides. I can't read the training infos without glasses, and I can't run with glasses, so. some displayed characters are too small.no tenth or hundredth of seconds for chronometer ?.I wonder why ? It takes me one hour to figure that. The app doesn't connect if you don't accept sharing location. the connection with the app is also a pain.buttons don't repeat when pushed so setting anything without the app is a pain (longitude, aaarghhhh.).I like the GBX-100, but apart from tide issue, it has other very annoying features : What is lame is that my GL-121, a twenty years old watch, display a more accurate tide graph. I sent a mail to Casio, but with a collection of hundredth of watches and millions of customers, will they listen ? The interval between low and high tide is also false by half an hour. If I create a new place by setting the next high tide, the next low tide is off by 30 minutes, and the day after both tides are wrong by one hour. The local harbour is on the app list, but when selected, tides are off by 3 hours. Same issue here on Reunion islang (southern hemisphere). But I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking for accurate tide info, fitness tracking or phone notifications. It's a good gshock square with a legible screen. Overall, I like the watch as a slight upgrade over the 5600. Vibration alerts are a nice feature with plenty of customization options in the app. The MIP screen is crisp and easy to read. ![]() Reading phone notifications is a pain (I turned this feature off). The nearest gshock preloaded point is early by 58 minutes. The exact point I chose is late by 51 minutes from online tide charts. Third and most importantly, as others have mentioned the tide graphs are wildly inaccurate. If you add an exact point (indicated by the white pointer with red dot), you can give it a name, but the watch will still display it as "USER1". I could choose from 2 nearby locations (10-20miles away) or add an exact point. Second, using the app to set the tide point was disappointing. Setup isn't terrible but it definitely takes away some of the fun of the unboxing experience. Yesterday my new GBX100-1 arrived so I thought I would offer a small review of info I would have appreciated when reading reviews, particularly on the tide graph.įirst, the gshock move app is not intuitive. After looking at mixed reviews I settled on the GBX100 thinking at worst it would make a decent replacement for my lost 5600. Now that we live on the coast, I decided to replace it with a tide graph. I had a 5600 for years but lost it a few months back while packing up to move. ![]()
